We have to show positive growth by winning with the recruits we have and then the stud recruits we’ve been so accustomed to will follow. But you have to do it the right way. I like that our head coach isn’t willing to sacrifice the integrity of our program to win; simply because it’s not sustainable (see Butch Davis). What you do for now is have skilled evaluators of talent and great teachers of the game who can find diamonds in the rough and then galvanize them to play to their fullest potential.
We’re lucky to have coaches who know how to solicit and that our program still has the clout through its history, fans and facilities to land a few potential phenoms that will help expedite this process. But the simple fact of the matter is that you have to win the right way to create a winning culture. Scheming and taking short-cuts to win now never works long-term (see Auburn). Dooley’s model cultivates long-term success. He has excellent leadership skills and from watching our guys at media days; they have completely bought in. Our players work hard for him and will play hard for him. Only more divine interventions will stop this team from going 9-3.
