While I hate to sound like a spoiled-sport, the facts are what they are – the BCS hasn’t said a word, not a single word, regarding the investigation of Auburn – I believe it is due to a couple of things –
1. The criminal case against Milton McGregor and Ronnie Gilley hasn’t been deposed yet, the case hasn’t even made it to court, but evidence of wrongdoing within the SEC has clearly implicated Auburn going all the way back to the days of Pat Dye in the mid-80’s. That said, the Cam Newton scandal is barely the tip of the ice burg, which brings us to the 2nd reason nothing has been said or done yet – money! The BCS would have lost millions if this had already been released and investigated, and everything hinges on the evidence collected by the FBI so far – since we are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, I will refrain from saying much more, except a great deal of this information is available on-line and verified by more than one source.
While I am an admitted Alabama fan, I also hold anyone from the SEC up, and really want to be glad a school from Alabama gained the championship title… but given Newton’s criminal background, (convicted felon), and the message that sends to our children, and the depth of the damning evidence so far released, I am having an extremely difficult time feeling good about this particular outcome.
For now, all I want to say is I hope the evidence is wrong – it will be a real tragedy for all Alabamians if this thing turns out to be true.
