Imus Creates Firestorm With Rutgers Comments

This kind of thing is to be expected..Dog bites man and what-not. Goodness.
[A little Billy Packer Fag-ness buried at the end of the video]

On his “Imus In The Morning” show Thursday, he referred to the Rutgers women’s basketball team as “nappy-headed hos.” He compared them to the Tennessee team, saying “The girls from Tennessee — they all looked cute.” [Media matters]

The conversation then went on to compare the game to “the jigaboos versus the wannabes.”

I’ve heard Imus talk about sports once or twice before and I believe my grandmother has a more functioning knowledge of popular sports than this dope and his stupid 1970s American Airlines headphones.

Imus is the same idiot racist, sexist idiot he was 30 years ago and has never given a damn who he demeans….that’s the reason the man has a show. People watch, people listen, people laugh at what he has to say. Rush and Howard are still on the air. Why should Imus get the boot? He’s entertaining…Right?

  8. There’s a link elsewhere on this LWS site that says, “We are seeking smart-ass, aggressive and active Bloggers that have thick skins that are willing to make fun of others.” That’s Imus’s gig exactly, and he does it very, very well — better than anyone currently on the air. Sometimes he goes overboard. He was, however, man enough to apologize and admit his mistake, as he did Friday and Monday. I agree with Phil (above). People need to lighten up. They also need to look at the totality of Imus’s work, and the good he has done in raising issues others won’t touch. He’s an asset.

  9. Him demeaning a women’s basketball team is just a cover up from him saying the real thing……………..he’s an asshole in other words!

So let me get this straight, it’s ok if his says something that is blatantly racist as long as he apologizes for it the next day? Come on, Bill. I don’t think you’d be as forgiving if someone on here posted a littany of racial and ethnic slurs about you or your family but apologized for it the next day. People need to be held accountable for their actions and whether it’s called the Rutgers women’s basketball team nappy headed ho’s or calling Barack Obama “that colored fella,” Imus needs to be aware while he may be able to say whatever he wants, he can not control how those thoughts may be perceived.

Provocation by people like Imus is necessary. As ridiculous as his comments were are as necessary as they are because without viewing the dark side, how would we ever know that there is a lighter side. Gotta have the black (no pun intended) to appreciate the white. That doesn’t mean he gets away with it. There are consequences for his behavior, but in the bigger scheme of things, this stuff has always been around and I say thank god. By looking at Don Imus and Howard Stern and the rest of the bunch, it provokes us into thinking and wishing that there is hope for decency and morality in this world.

  14. I am not a racial person, but lets face it. There is a severe inequity umong the races. However, the comment was not as bad as the “n” word, per se. Worse things have been said, by even the same race toward another, ie. double standard. If it were not for these racial differences and inequities, people like Jessie Jack, and Big AL, the race and hate mongers, who push for race-based entilements….would be out of a job.
    Lighten up people.

when we stop demeaning our own race they may stop and stop calling eachothers n***as and Ho’s then they will too. They gave him even more power whenthey made a big deal out of it nao IMus is a household name. I had never heard of him until now.

No big deal when a black comedian calls me Opie. Or a movie that White men can’t jump. Everyone knows it is a joke. But in reverse all hell breaks loose. How can we be equal if we can’t joke with each other?

  17. today on imus 4 10 07 a little after 8:30 am imus tried again to apolagize. saying he shouldnt have said what he said stateind that black have a hard enough time getting a man cause black men perfer a white girls. just said this morning after 8:30 am eastern us time

  18. Those players were not looking for a fight but Imus started one. If someone came up to you and punched you in the face for no reason, what would you do? Exactly! If your daughter were one of the players on that team, would encourage her to let it go because “that’s how it is?” Over the years Don Imus has had a pattern of patranizing minorities and women and gays. Looking back I’m sure he wishes he hadn’t made those comments. Why? Not because it offended a lot of people but because he could loose his job $$ over it. If you push someone around long enough eventually they’re going to push back. If you think that there is a double standard and you don’t like it then you fight back but don’t just expect that they should lay down and go to sleep.

GET REAL– HE APOLOGIZED– What do you want him to do serve time ? or maybe you want his blood. There should be more publicity with concern with how many people ignore that there is a holy war in the middle east. What a surprise veterans today get paid little to nothing and sacrafices themselves for freedom of speech.! Im hoping there are more female black people who can learn to suck it up and move on to more important issues. Like our fellow soldiers at war. for god and country–Dont Hate

I have a 11yr old son who gets called, CRACKER, and little white boy, by his nonwhite classmates in school. He asks me what this means. I tell him that its the way they call him N—-r, just the white version for us by his hating classmates. He listens to hip-hop and hears the singers use hos and calling each other N—-r and wonders how they can do this but if he would he’d be suspended from school. I”m no fan of Imus, I think he”s past his prime if he ever had one and should be off the air. But as the soldier said , they are fighting for American goals and beliefs. One of the best is… I may detest and find disgusting what you may say but I”ll defend your right to say it. Until people of all sides and colors decide to get a grip on what is appropriate to say about each other we”ll have these moronic moments. There should be no double standard , period.
For rich or poor, black or white or for old stupid, smug, sanctimonious, I got my mine radio “personalities”. You screw up you lose,(job, school time, dollars).

  23. First of all this was not comedic AT ALL. Anyone who says lighten up about this kind of comment is inwardly racist and sexist as well it must tickle them in some sick way. I am a white mother of two including one biracial daughter and if anyone said this about my daughter he would have had more to worry about then Rev.Sharpton let me tell you. It was not just about race it was also about the degredation of women that happens on a daily basis by men. These ladies are beautiful inside and out and are accomplishing something in their lives which is more then one can say for a good ole boy racist and sexist such as Imus he’s got to go! Please remember that anyone making these kinds of comments, irreguardless of color or sex should suffer the same fate WAKE UP AMERICA our society will never get any better if we continue to let these issues fly!!!!!

  24. As for the Packer comment, the “fag” in the phrase “fag out,” as I’ve understood it, is short for fatigued. Sometimes people say “I’m fagged out” as in very tired. Sometimes we like to jump on a comment to create contoversy.

  25. Okay. I’m going to be called a racist and hate monger for what I’m about to say, but here it goes.

Why the crap should we care about this guy, or the comments he made? He’s a friggin’ shock jock. Thats what he does. All I’ve heard today on the news was “OMG, he said a bad word about african americans!” only to find out his comments were about 1/10th of what they could of been.

The true problem is that these pro-tolernace anti-hate speech idiots are doing is making a small issue something huge to try to destroy and kill anyone with a different opinion than them. So what if a stupid guy made a stupid comment? It’s not the end of the world, but apparently everyone has to make it to be a big deal. People get called names all the time, we make fun of fat people, skinny people, republicans, democrats, famous people, George W Bush, white people, asians and others, but God forbid we make fun of the blacks! Get over it. Racism will only continue to exist when idiots decry stupid comments. Life is about stupid comments, but appearently some people haven’t learned to ‘grow up’ because half of the people in these “tolerance” camps already attack and use the same hate-speech, but get by with it because it’s only directed to white people. Again, if you want to make racism stop, stop doing stupid crap BOTH ways (white and black), and stop making such a big deal of it!

  26. I will have to say first and foremost, a black person using the word n***a is always the same as a white person using the word n***er. I am a black woman and I can tell you that when I hear a black person use the word n***a it is meant as a friend or brother, but the word n***er is degrading. These words sound the same but have profoundly different meanings. As far as the pulling the slavery card, it did happen, and blacks are not just going to get over it. Comments like Imus remind black people that they will never be able to just get over it. Jibaboo and wannabe (white women) – Who talks like that in our day and age? No one except racist people. Children learn from their parents. Parents send out the message that being different is wrong no children. Change will only occur through parents teaching their children that regardless of race or ethnicity all people are created equal even those who make racial comments. Just as it is wrong for white people to make racial comments it is also wrong for black people to make racial comments. This man has gained appeal because people actually listen to his derogatory sexists, racial and ethnic comments. America basically pays him to hate America. I’m sure this is not the first time he has came under fire for his crude comments and it won’t be the last. How can we as Americans save a country from its boxed ideas if we can’t even save our selves our own box shaped ideas.

Personally, I think it was wrong. He should be fired. I’am also getting tired of the African American whinning about thier slavery shit. I’am a Native American, where the hell is our national day off for Sitting Bull, or Cochise? Everyone that owns land in this USA is in possesion of stolen property. Quit your whinning and move on. Nobody cares anymore.

  28. Tony what does a national holiday have to do with racism? If it wasn’t for slavery there wouldn’t be any racism against blacks because they wouldn’t have been here if they weren’t shipped and forced over here. Ethinicity has to do with all ethnic groups including Native Americans. Further more you care or else you wouldn’t have made the comparison of Native American land being stolen from Native Americans. Wrong is wrong no matter what the situation. We live in American and it is full of pretty and ugly history whether we like it or not it is American history.

  29. […] Two broadcasters, Don Imus and Billy Packer, have created controversy this week in the college basketball world. So which was worse, Imus calling the Rutgers players “nappy-headed hos” or Packer saying the word “fag”? First, watch the video: […]

  30. If I were Imus I would hope to get fired. That way he could jump ship and go to a satellite radio company where he would have more freedom- let’s call it pulling a Howard Stern.

  31. What Imus said was repulsive and stupid. However, we don’t see the Rutgers coach or Al Sharpton asking for a sit down with Snoop Dog and other rappers who regularly degrade women. Most of us aren’t asking for Imus to get a free pass. We are just asking for some equality in the outcry. Our society as a whole objectifies women and it is a terrible wrong. You can judge as society by how it treats women, orphans, and the poor. Remember the words of Jesus, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” So men, love the women you are around and don’t treat them as objects and try for a day to not keep score of which of them has the best rack. And to all, don’t forget to love people who are racist (that still means you can strongly disagree with them); it will go a long way to make our society a better place to live because love is stronger than hate!

All the Imus bloggers are quiet, I think we should let sleeping dogs lye.

  33. I guess its ok for Snoop Dog and Ice-T and all the other rappers out there to say it but not Imus…

  34. It’s ok to fire Imus for saying one bull-shit remark!!!! But rappers and def comedy and others can say shit about white people when ever and it’s totally ok. Im sick and tired of hearing about salvery. Well white people were slaves to read the fuckin history dumb asses. I feel Don Imus sould not have lost his job for saying one thing. If thats the cases then rappers and comedians should to. If they wanna make this a rasist thing.

  35. “Nappy” is not a racist word. It describes the uncombed condition of ANYONE’s hair. Also “ho” is not racist. Ho is just an abbreviation of “whore” and “whore” certainly has nothing to do with race! The media characterization of this as a racial slur show the media’s absolute stupidity and the media’s racism against white people. It was a mean-spirited comment, but certainly not racist! Especially since there are WHITE women on the Rutgers team! A big DOH and apology is due Imus from the media, but it will never happen because they are the true racists.
